Germano Almeida, born in Boa Vista in 1945, studied Law at the University of Lisbon and is a lawyer on the island of São Vicente.
His novels were translated into several languages. He held the position of Attorney General of the Republic of Cape Verde.
It is characterized by masterly use of the weapons of humour and satire, denouncing in a unique way the hypocritical duplicity of Cape Verdean society, asphyxiated during the first years of independence by a regime of a single party. An example of this sharp humor is O Meu Poeta, a novel of great breath where the author satirizes with unusual sarcasm the Cape Verdean reality.
It is considered the first truly national novel.
