Islands
The islands of the archipelago of Cape Verde integrate into two groups, the Barlavento (from where the wind blows) and the Sotavento (where flows the wind) as the positioning relative to the prevailing winds (trade winds) blowing from northeast, coinciding so the Windward (Santo Antão, S. Vicente, Santa Luzia, S. Nicolau, Sal and Boa Vista) with those found further north; and the Sotavento (Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava) with those that line the South.
The 10 islands of Cape Verde are also complemented by 16 islets: the Barlavento, o Ilhéu dos Pássaros, between São Vicente and Santo Antão; Branco e Raso, between Santa Luzia and São Nicolau; Rabo de Junco near the island of Sal; Sal Rei, Curral Velho and Baluarte, on the shores of Boa Vista. The Sotavento, the islet of Santa Maria, opposite the beach in Santiago; the ilhéu de Areia next to Brava and the islets Grande, Rombo, Baixo, de Cima, do Rei, Luís Carneiro and Sapado, 8 Km to the north of the island.
