Nancy Vieira was born in 1975 in Bissau, where her parents had joined the independence leader of Cape Verde and Guinea Bissau, Amílcar Cabral, killed in 1973. Cape Verde has independence in 1975 and four months after the birth of Nancy, the family settled in the city of Praia, on the island of Santiago, capital of Cape Verde. Nancy, as a daughter of freedom, will build a strong identity based on a political and artistic epic: her father, amateur musician, guitar and violin player, was also Minister of Transport and Communications of the new government at the time.
Ten years later, with her family, she moved to Mindelo, an active port and metropolis on the island of São Vicente, where she holds the position of Deputy Minister. Nancy was 14 when her father was appointed Ambassador of Cape Verde to Portugal, where she stayed and studied Business Management and Sociology...
Her first album "Nos Raça" was awarded in a competition in which she participated unexpectedly, when she only accompanied a friend. After being a mother Nancy took a break of 8 years and in 2004 publishes "Segred". In 2007 with "Lus", the third album where the sweetness and balance of her voice were already receiving attention from the critics and public.
