In 1962, Maria Isabel Kouassi, known worldwide as Misá, was born in Praia. The plastic artist, sculptor and Cape Verdean poet, attended the School of Fine Arts in Ivory Coast. She lived most of her life in Switzerland and Côte d'Ivoire and on her return to Cape Verde, Misá is committed to "showing that in Cape Verde there is a woman who dedicates herself, among other things, to the fine arts". The artist became interested in art at the age of nine and explains that inspiration comes from her taste for "space, colours and objects, looking for sensations through the colours that wander in the warmth of the sun where all the charms meet".
