Manuel da Paixão dos Santos Faustino was born in the city of Mindelo on March 26, 1948.
As a medical student, he lived for some time in Portugal, where he made his political debut at a very young age as part of the pro-independence group in Cape Verde that was operating underground. Taking advantage of the cultural moment that was then lived, Faustino used music as an instrument to achieve political objectives within the framework of this mobilization, having, for this purpose, composed several songs of intervention, the first "Ca bo bá pa tropa" in 1968.
