Luís Rendall
- Compositor
- músico
Luís Rendall began learning the guitar at the age of 7 and studied solfège with a Portuguese canon, who later helped him to understand the Brazilian musical model, the modulations and variations.
A sympathetic soul who lived deeply in Cape Verde, an unconditional guitar enthusiast, he composed until the end of his life, playing for hours and hours tirelessly, always ready for a good serenade, for what he called "a good touch".
He recorded his first album in 1938 in Mindelo, a single that was later pressed in the Netherlands "Música de Cabo Verde", edited by Alvorada, "Luís Rendall e o seu conjunto" and his latest album "Cabo Verde e o seu grande compositor Luís Rendall" are some discographic examples.
The mornas "Mar Negro", "Cara d'Santa" and "Pombinha Squiba" are some of the highlights of his catalogue.
He died in Lisbon on 4 December 1986.
