João Manuel Varela (João Vário)

João Vário, was born on June 7, 1937 in São Vicente, main pseudonym of João Manuel Varela, who also signed as Timóteo Tiofe and Geuzim Té Didial, was a writer, neuroscientist, scientist and Cape Verdean teacher.
He studied medicine at the universities of Coimbra and Lisbon and obtained a PhD at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, where he was a researcher and professor of neuropathology and neurobiology. Upon jubilation, he returned to his native Mindelo.
He died on August 7, 2007 in Mindelo, São Vicente.
