Guilherme da Cunha Dantas was born in 1848 on the island of Brava, lived in the metropolis for a little over ten years, most of them in Mafra, where he studied secondary school.
Returning to Cape Verde in 1869, he seems to have found it difficult to adapt to an environment now felt too narrow, dying - helpless and unhappy - in 1888, at Praia.
In the current status of literary historiography, he can be considered the first Cape Verdean writer.
Works of the author: Contos Singelos (Nhô Pedro or Cenas da ilha Brava and Cenas de Mafra), several prose texts published in the author's life.
Posthumously published works: Bosquejos dum passeio ao interior da ilha de Santiago, Os Intrujões, O Sonho (Memórias dum doido).
