Gardenia Benrós was born in the City of Praia. In 1983 she joined the Tropical Power project in the United States of America.
She participated in several beauty and talent contests.
In Portugal, she makes her debut at Casino do Estoril. In 1986 she signs with Polygram and releases her debut album with production by Paulino Vieira and with repertoire by Eugénio Tavares. In the following year she travels to Cape Verde where the tour was a great success.
In 1992 she performed in Paris for the first time. And it is with great honour that she assumes, with her presence, being one of the five most famous female voices of Cape Verdean music in the world. Other presences were Jaqueline Fortes, Cesária Évora, Celina Pereira and Titina Rodrigues, accompanied by Paulino Vieira, Toi Vieira, Armando Tito, among others.
In 1997 she releases "Simplesmente Cabo-verdiana", her first work, produced, written, and directed by the "Independent Talent Productions", her own "publisher".
She inspired artists, poets and composers, such as Manuel de Novas, João Amaro, Teófilo Chantre, Alberto Alves (Neves), among others...
