Aguinaldo Brito Fonseca, born in Mindelo on 22 September 1922 and died in Lisbon on 24 January 2014 in Lisbon. His poetry is widely disseminated on the internet and in collective works published in several countries.
Aguinaldo Fonseca settled in Lisbon in 1945, having seen his poems published in several Portuguese newspapers at the time.
He collaborated in the weekly Mundo Literário (1946-1948).
He became known as "the forgotten poet", even after having published the collection "Linha do Horizonte", in 1951, and seven years later, having collected a selection of poems in the cultural supplement Notícias de Cabo Verde, as portrayed by Michel Laban, an Algerian researcher and scholar of Lusophone literature, who died in Paris in December 2008.
His poetry portrayed civic ardour and firmly exposed social injustices, as referred to in the 1979 Great Soviet Encyclopaedia, and is translated into Russian.
