Leonel Almeida is a singer born in 1952 on the island of São Vicente in Cape Verde. At the age of 17 he began his musical career as a member of the Birds group, alongside the famous guitarist and producer Paulino Vieira. After having recorded numerous versions of songs from other groups, Leonel Almeida was called into the Portuguese army when he was 20. This experience was a turning point in his life, from which he woke up politically and started singing songs of intervention.

He later joined the group Voz de Cabo Verde, where he worked with the legendary saxophonist Luís Morais. He joined the group on their tour of Europe, the United States of America and Africa, having recorded some albums as lead vocalist.

On the album "Ninho Magoado" he showed the "morabeza" of the islands of Cape Verde.
