Author of about 40 recorded compositions, he comes from a musical family: his grandfather played the violin and his father the clarinet, being a great collector of records.

His best known work is Doce Guerra, a mix of images of the islands that has practically become an alternative national anthem. He received the composition award in the 1987 edition of the "Todo o Mundo Canta" competition and the following year the B. Léza Award, which consecrated the two best compositions of the first ten years of independent Cape Verde.
