Abel Lima, o compositor de intervenção

Son of Manuel Lima and Maria Rosa Brito, the artist spent his childhood in the town of Curral Velho - Boa Vista, but for circumstances of life had to travel very early to the Ivory Coast, and later to France.

In these two countries he worked as a typographer, and music, according to him, was something that happened circumstantially. "Since I was a child I liked to sing, and already living in the Ivory Coast one day I picked up a cavaquinho and started to play and that aroused the attention of people who were surprised, and it was a great motivation," he says, assuring that from then on he never stopped, either singing or composing.

In France, he integrates the group KAUGIAMO in its second phase of existence, a group that was formed by Tony Lima, Jorge Lima, Jojo Lima, Mena, Alice, and the Angolan artist Bona, who was part of the group despite not having participated in the recordings.
Throughout his career, Abel Lima has recorded fifteen albums, and the first was "Nos Vida" where two songs of resounding success appear: Rotterdam and Povo.

In addition to having made a solo career, the artist also participated in the group "Les Sofá" formed by Admir Évora, Afonso Livramento, Sérgio Neves, and a young man from Burkina Faso named Nuno, who performed the role of vocalist of the group.

Approached about the impact of his work on the dawn of independence, when he had already become an interpreter and composer of intervention, Abel Lima expresses these moments with enthusiasm.
"When I recorded Nos Vida, I sent five hundred copies to Portugal, which were sold in a flash, and I was soon approached by a Portuguese businessman, who contacted me through Bana, so that I could sign a contract with him, this from the perspective of selling my copyrights, and I signed - I think it was the best selling record in Cape Verde at the time" - he admits adding that he won little or nothing, but for him the important thing is to have achieved a work of reference.

In relation to his current life, Abel Lima says he's out of touch with music, even though it's permanently in his soul. "I don't do almost anything in terms of music anymore, Boa Vista has no incentives for artistic creation, nobody wants to work seriously, and music demands self-denial, and this spirit is lacking", he criticizes.
