Terrestrial fauna

Cape Verde has 37 species of gastropods (class of mollusks which include snails and slugs), of which 15 are endemic, of which 10 are listed as endangered.
Arachnid species (arthropod phylum class that includes, among others, spiders, ticks, mites and scorpions, comprising more than 60,000 species) total 111, of which 46 are endemic, of which 36 are listed as endangered. Of the 470 coleopteran (insect) species found on the islands, 155 are endemic and of these, 120 are on the list of endangered species.
More than 59% of terrestrial molluscs are endangered, as are 28% of terrestrial reptiles.
The condition and future situation of the bird species in Cape Verde are particularly disturbing. Globally, 47% of bird species in Cape Verde are threatened, including 17 of the 36 species that breed on the islands. Several endemic birds are on the list of endangered species, including:
to Pandion haliaetus (Guincho), Halcyon leucocephala (Passarinha) and Calonectris edwardsii (Cagarra). The winged races (Calhandra do Ilhéu Raso), which only live in Cape Verde, were reduced to a population of 250.
The first census of the Red Kite (Milvus milvus fasciicauda) and the Black Kite (Milvus migrans m.) Revealed that its populations throughout the archipelago account for less than 10 species (Hille, 1998).
Cape Verde has already possessed 28 species of reptiles in its history, 25 being endemic, 18 of which still exist, and 25% of these are endangered.
