Leopoldina Barreto
- Arte
Leopoldina Barreto, Cape Verdean writer and painter, born in 1937, on the island of S. Nicolau and died in April 2007 at the age of 69, in Sweden, victim of prolonged illness. Sweden was the country that welcomed her for several years, and where she saw her children grow up.
In the last years of her life, after having built the house of her dreams, facing the sea of Preguiça, Leopoldina Barreto began to live long periods of time in Cape Verde where she felt happier and found the warmth, light and colors of her land and in Portugal where she also lived well, in her house in Courelas da Brava, near Sesimbra. The artist had left S. Nicolau in February of that year, bound for S. Vicente and from this island to Portugal, in search of treatment for her illness.
