Localities

The islands of Cape Verde were discovered, as were the archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, uninhabited by human beings. To António Da Noli and Diogo Gomes in 1460 and Diogo Afonso in 1462 is attributed by the most recent investigators his finding.

The first town to be settled was that of Ribeira Grande, on the island of Santiago, as early as 1462, becoming the first city not only of the archipelago of Cape Verde, but also of all sub-Saharan Africa.

Simultaneously was founded, more to the east, the town of Alcatrazes, to the north of the present capital, Praia (of Santa Maria), village since 1615 and that in turn became city and capital in 1769.

The settlement of the entire interior of Santiago was followed.

The second island to be settled was Fogo, and the last one was S. Vicente, already at the end of the century. XVIII.
