Sérgio Frusoni

Sérgio Frusoni, born on August 10, 1901 in Mindelo, died in Lisbon, May 29, 1975 was an Italian-Cape Verdean poet, son of Italian parents. At the age of 24, he started working for the Western Telegraph Company and later moved to Italcable. In 1947, he started to manage "Café Sport" in Mindelo, where he presented poems and short stories in Creole.
In the 1960s he led the theatre group "Teatro do Castilho" in Mindelo. For years, he was a speaker at Radio Barlavento, where he directed and presented the program "Mosaico Mindelense", in Creole.
Frusoni wrote many short stories and poems in Creole by São Vicente (Criol d'Soncente). He is well known in the archipelago of Cape Verde, but is practically unknown abroad. At the end of his life, Sérgio Frusoni was also a painter.
