Protázio Fortes Brito (Tazinho)

Tazinho, of his baptismal name Protázio Fortes Brito, was born in Povoação Velha (Boa Vista Island), in June 1932. Son of musicians since his father and mother played guitar at home, he started at the age of four and never stopped, having completed, with mastery, 60 years of career. Tazinho was the pupil of composer and instrumentalist Luis Rendall, with whom he learned the secrets of solos.

A sailor by profession, Tazinho would eventually emigrate to Europe, where he worked as a foreman, but never left his guitar aside. On the contrary. In 1962 he entered the history of Cape Verdean discography when he recorded a 33-rotation record entitled "Cabo-verdianos na Holanda". It was the first 33 rpm album produced by a Cape Verdean ensemble, then led by him and Frank Cavaquim, featuring Edmundo, Pirra and Djunga. Nine works later came out.

Protázio was part of the famous quartet of maestro Luis Rendall where Taninho Evora and Ângelo Lima, four unforgettable performers, were also present.

Discography: Tazinho, Dia Grande, Hora Di Bai, Sucessos Tazinho, Cabo Verde, Tazinho e Violão, Tazinho and Os Bravos, Pleno, Coragem - Regresso de Tazinho e Santa Mónica.
