Manuel Correia Silva (Manel Klarineti)

Manuel Clarinete (Manuel Correia da Silva) was born in Praia on the last day of the year 1933.

In addition to being a musician and head of the band, keep in mind that Manuel Clarinete is also a composer. The beautiful "Laura" - recorded by Mário de Melo and Arminda Sousa for more than 30 years, and, in the 90's, by Gardénia Benrós and Maria Alice, not to mention the recording of Fátima Alfama, unpublished until 1998 and included in the reissue of Tututa e Taninho's album - is one of his best known songs.

"Mata Sodadi" was recorded by the group Zeca Santos; "Basculante" by Ima Costa (Fátima Alfama) and "Pega Malandro" appears on 45 rpm records by Maria da Luz and Mário de Melo. "Milho Branco", in turn - "which I played for the first time at a New Year's Eve dance, on December 14, 1955" - was recorded by Os Apolos. "But they changed the lyrics and a little bit the music," says the composer. "Nossa Senhora da Graça" and "Tempo Perdido" are themes that he presented on the radio or other occasions, but he doesn't know if they were recorded.
