José Arlindo Duarte Couto (Zeca Couto)

Born in Praia on August 29, 1955, where he did his primary and secondary studies, José Arlindo Duarte Couto, of full name, is the son of Arlindo Couto, who has been living for many years in the United States of America, and D. Maria Fernanda Duarte Couto (Funa), a figure well known in the prairie, where he is, by the way, natural.

After his secondary education, in 1976, Zeca left for Cuba and, in Havana, he entered the National School of Art Instructors, where he remained until 1980, the year in which he returns definitively to Cape Verde, where he resides, until now. Swimming and raised in music, Zeca, still a child, found an accordion at home - one belonging to his father and the other to his older brother - with which he would become familiar.

A few years later, more precisely in 1979, after his return from Cuba and now with a solid musical formation acquired in Fidel's land, especially in the field of the piano, Zeca began to impose on the whole (The Sharks) a certain personal stamp, particularly in orchestration, where his role was prominent.

.........

Besides being an arranger and harmonizer, Zeca, who also revealed his leadership qualities within the group Os Tubarões, is a good interpreter, endowed with a very refined aesthetic sensibility (Henrique Oliveira), as well as with an excellent technical command of the keyboard, especially the piano, his favourite instrument, although he did not compose musical works, except for the well-known Tema para dois (the lyrics are by Oswaldo Osório), after all, an authentic art creation by a son of these Atlantic rocks.
