Gregório Xavier Pinto (Djirga)

Djirga was born in Chã-de-Areia on February 13, 1936, the son of Luís Xavier Pinto and Paulina Pinto Osório under his baptismal name Gregório Xavier Pinto.
A multifaceted artistic creator, with knowledge of musical theory, Djirga did not remain only for mornas and coladeiras, music of the time, par excellence. He also composed Brazilian-style samba and marches, funaná, Portuguese-style songs, religious hymns and competed with lyrics and music in the competition launched in 1992, to replace the national anthem at the time.
